How to Clean Your Winter Knit Accessories?

Apr 11,2022
Every winter, there is no doubt that coats, sweaters, and flannel shirts have a unique place in your wardrobe. But your winter accessories like, knitted scarves, knitted hats, cashmere knitted blankets, etc.

While you may have dry cleaned your coats and sweaters, accessories that have also been used for years should also be cleaned promptly. Here are some cleaning guidelines.

Maybe you already have a custom knit scarf, or maybe you bought some knitted gloves from your local store. Regardless, there's no denying the appeal of knitted or crocheted accessories. They exude a half-DIY, half-artistic vibe.

Knitwear is also delicate, so you should keep them out of the washer and dryer (for the most part).

Cleaning Instructions: If your sweater looks dirty, it's time to wash it. Experts make a good point: Yarn is (usually) like human hair, and strong soaps and detergents can damage these fibers. Knitting experts recommend using a mild shampoo or even conditioner for handwashing knitted wearables.

Carefully place knitted gloves or knitted scarf in warm water mixed with a small amount of shampoo and conditioner. Press them down gently until everything is fully saturated, then let your accessories rest for a minute or so. To rinse, empty the sink and rinse again with lukewarm water. Add a few drops of white vinegar to the rinse, which will help protect the fibers.

Put your knitwear in the dryer (yes, you read that right) for 10 seconds. This will remove excess moisture without actually wringing them out. Remember, don't let them spin for more than 10 seconds unless you want disfiguring scarves and gloves.

To complete the drying process, lay the knitted fabric flat on a drying rack or some towels.

Wool accessories

Wool is a textile fiber from animals such as sheep, rabbits, and goats. It should be noted that all these types of wool should be washed differently.

To be clear, items classified as wool use many of the same textile fabrics as knitted items. However, they are actually constructed differently from wool and should be cleaned accordingly. It is important to note that wool accessories should not be tumble-dried.

Sheep wool: Also known as wool, sheep wool is the most common type you will find. Cleaning this material is a delicate process. In addition to the dryer, hot water and hanging to dry can damage the wool's structure.

We wanted to avoid these pitfalls, so we turned to wool experts for help. One expert recommends filling the container/sink with warm water (not hot water) and adding a small amount of mild detergent. Soak your woolen items in this mixture for five minutes, then press them to make sure they are saturated. Rinse in cold water and lay flat to dry - hanging will cause the shape to distort.

Cashmere: Cashmere comes from goats. However, it comes from the undercoat of cashmere goats. If you own a cashmere knitted blanket or hat, you probably cherish it for the price you paid for it. In other words, take your precious cashmere items directly to the dry cleaner.

I hope the above suggestions can help you better maintain your winter accessories. If you need to order knitted products or cashmere products, please contact us.
